What will the mainstream media backlash and fear-mongering look like in 2026?
I remember a lot of outrage and controversy surrounding GTA III through San Andreas on the news and in government circles. Everybody knew about those games from media coverage and a lot of people tried to get them banned to no avail. The mainstream media coverage of GTA IV was a lot more muted and I don’t remember much controversy or coverage outside of gaming circles. I remember a teacher calling some kids “disgraceful” for playing “that garbage”, but that’s about it. GTA V went completely unnoticed outside of the gaming community. It seemed like we were past the gaming moral panics of the 90
